How To Install App IPA Files On iOS Using Cydia Impactor – Geek Cosmos

You don’t often find the need to sideload apps with iOS. In fact, most users likely aren’t even familiar with the concept. To sideload is to install an app directly to your iPhone or iPad without the aid of the built-in App Store. Why would you want to do that, you ask? Sideloading is generally associated with apps that aren’t available on the App Store as well as with modified, hacked, or older versions of those that are.

There are a couple ways to sideload apps onto your iOS device, with the easiest being a handy little solution called Cydia Impactor. Developed by Saurik, the man behind Cydia and Mobile Substrate, the Cydia Impactor application for Windows, Mac, and Linux offers, among other things, a much easier way to sideload apps onto iOS devices. If, on your journey across the web to find a solution the App Store failed to offer, you’ve come across an IPA (or DEB) file that you are now trying to install on your iPhone or iPad, then this gem of a tool is your best bet.

In what follows, we walk you through how exactly to use Cydia Impactor to install IPA or DEB files to your iOS device.

1. If the app you want to sideload is in the form of a .deb package, you will first need to convert it to an .ipa file. The following guide will walk you through the process: How To Convert DEB File To IPA For App Sideloading On iOS.

2. Connect your iOS device to your computer.

3. Download the Cydia Impactor ZIP archive from the official website at cydiaimpactor.com.

4. Unzip the downloaded archive to a location of choice, open the extracted folder, and launch the “Impactor” executable inside.

5. Within Cydia Impactor, select the device to which you want to install the .ipa file from the dropdown at the top. If device in question is the only one connected, it should already be selected.

6. Drag and drop the .ipa file onto the Cydia Impactor window, or select Device > Install Package… and point the application to your .ipa file.

5. Cydia Impactor will now ask you to enter your Apple ID username followed by the password. You don’t have to use your primary Apple ID here.

Note: Unless your ID is associated with a paid developer account, the certificates associated with any sideloaded apps will only be valid for 7 days, after which you will have to uninstall and then reinstall the app using the same method. Paid developer accounts yield certificates that last for an entire year.

6. Once Cydia Impactor is done installing the package, launch the Settings app on your iOS device, navigate to General > Profiles & Device Management, and select the certificate associated with the app you just installed. The certificate’s name, or a part of it, will be the Apple ID you used with Cydia Impactor.

7. In the screen that follows, tap the Trust option. You should now be able to launch the app from the Home screen.

How To Check For The KeyRaider Malware [DylibSearch Cydia … – iJailbreak.com

You may have heard, by now, of a report claiming that 220,000 iCloud accounts in China were breached on jailbroken devices. The breach came via a malware called KeyRaider, which is installed with a tweak from Cydia. Why is this bad? Well, if someone has access to your iCloud, they have access to your iTunes information, your contacts, your photos, and possibly anything else you use with your iCloud account.

Luckily there is a new tweak in Cydia to help you find out if you have been affected by KeyRaider. This new tweak, called DylibSearch, will search through all your dylib bundles and identify any any strings known to be infected by KeyRaider.

As you can see from the screenshot above, my list turned out to be fine, but if you do have an infected file, it would presumably be marked with a red “X”. Then you can uninstall the guilty tweak, in Cydia, or use iFile to go to /Library/MobileSubstrate/DynamicLibraries, and manually remove the dylib file.

How To Install DyLib Search

This tweak is not available in the regular repositories, so you’ll have to add a new one. Simply open Cydia and tap “Sources” on the bottom of the screen. Then tap the “+” icon at the top. You should see a field pop up to input the new repo. Add this repo to the field:

http://wolfposd.github.io

Once that has fully installed, tap the new repo from your sources list, and then tap the “Apps” folder. You should see a new app called “DylibSearch”. Just tap install, like you would anything else from Cydia.

Once the installation is finished, you will see a new app on your home screen.

Tap to open it, like any other app. It will automatically search for the unwanted files. There are no other configurations to set up. If the app does find an infected file, you’ll want to uninstall it immediately, from in Cydia, or use iFile to go to /Library/MobileSubstrate/DynamicLibraries, and manually remove them. You will also want to change your iCloud password, just in case this information was obtained from your device.

Hopefully, (and most likely) you are all safe from this attack, as is mainly affected iCloud accounts in China. At least there is a way to be sure. Let us know your findings, in the comment below.

The story behind Cydia on the iPhone – Ars Technica

When Jay “Saurik” Freeman first started building Cydia, his collaborative open-source distribution system for iPhone, he decided to name it after a pest. Cydia pomonella is the scientific name for the coddling moth, which as Freeman writes “is what we often think of the as the stereotypical apple worm.” He adds, “I felt the name was fitting.” It’s certainly easier to say than Rhagoletis, after Rhagoletis pomonella, the apple maggot.

Department of Agriculture

Cydia has proven to be quite the worm. It’s now installed as a standard part of the iPhone dev team jailbreak, allowing users to customize their systems with software not available through official App Store channels; in fact Cydia is the jailbreak equivalent of the App Store.

With Cydia, you can download, install, and update software from independent developers. As with App Store, Cydia notifies you when new updates are available and offers lists of featured and recently added items. Standout packages include the Cycorder video recorder, Winterboard, which allows you to customize your iPhone with artistic themes, and a bevy of application launchers. None of these programs are allowed in App Store as they all violate Apple’s strict usage rules.

Cydia has upwards of 350,000 users. Freeman told Ars that the mechanism to track unique iPhone identifier count changed couple of weeks ago, so this number is reading artificially low as many users may not yet have upgraded their software.

The Wikipedia writeup on C. pomonella is particularly ironic when considered in light of the iPhone: “[it] has proved to be a problematic pest on several fruit trees, including apples and pears. The caterpillars burrow into the fruit, rendering it un-sellable. Traditional insecticides are of limited use, as some strains have acquired resistance to several insecticides.”

Freeman regularly gets e-mails from people asking how to say the name. He jokes that they write “‘Please help me win this bet I have with my friend: is Cydia pronounced see-dee-uh or sigh-dee-uh.’ It’s always two incorrect choices.” For the record, the correct pronunciation is sih-DEE-uh. Or it is at least for the moment. “I don’t actually speak or study Latin, but I am a linguistics student.” He adds that he’s open to corrections from Latin experts.

Viva Cydia, at least in its iPhone format.

Read: Best iOS 10 Themes

Apple is no longer signing iOS 10.2, so you should stay on whatever version of iOS you are on if you are jailbroken. The iOS 10.1.1 jailbreak works on the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. The iOS 10.2 jailbreak works on the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone SE, iPad Pro, iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 4.  iOS 10.2.1 and iOS 10.3 are not jailbreakable using current tools.

The best iOS 10 Cydia tweaks and jailbreak apps for iOS 10.2 through iOS 10.

Whether you are new to jailbreaking or a veteran, you can use these jailbreak tweaks to do more with your iPhone or iPad. This is the essential list of iOS 10 Cydia tweaks and apps that jailbreakers need to try on the iPhone and iPad with iOS 10, iOS 10.1, iOS 10.1.1 and iOS 10.2.

Instead of listing every possible Cydia app that delivers specialty tweaks for individual iPhone apps we focus on the best iOS 10.2 jailbreak apps that will deliver a better experience every day. We’ll skip over Phantom for Snapchat, Savegram for Instagram and others that focus on one app, to highlight other apps you need to know about.

Here is our list of awesome iOS 10 Cydia tweaks for iOS 10 through iOS 10.2. We recommend every jailbreak user check out these tweaks and apps. You can check this list to see if the apps you want are compatible with the iOS 10 jailbreak.

Best iOS 10 Cydia Tweaks

Activator

One of the most popular jailbreak tweaks of all time is Activator, and it’s easy to see why. Activator allows you to set up automations as well as shortcuts for all sorts of different actions, like automatically turning on your alarms for the next day and even changing songs using the volume buttons.

This is especially true now that Activator works on iOS 10, so you can combine it with everything that Apple added to iOS 10 and iOS 10.2.

AppDrawer

One of the best features of Android is the app drawer, where all of your installed apps appear when you bring it up. Something like this is awesome, since you don’t have to have all of your apps on the home screen, and now the feature is on iOS through Cydia thanks to AppDrawer.

Browser Changer

Do you use a web browser on your iPhone other than Safari? Then it might be nice to actually change iOS’s default browser to your preferred one using Browser Changer. This means that any links from other apps will now open in the web browser of your choice and not just default to Safari.

Bytafont 3

iOS 9 added a new San Francisco font that is still in iOS 10. If you’re not a huge fan of it, you can use Bytafont 3 to change the font to whatever you want. The possibilities are endless here.

DeleteForever

Not a big fan of the Recently Deleted folder in the Photos app? While there isn’t an iOS 10 Cydia tweak to get rid of the folder, you can at least bypass it altogether when deleting a photo.

DeleteForever will allow you to permanently delete photos with one swoop, rather than deleting a photo and then having to delete it again from the Recently Deleted folder.

[Updated] Learn How To Jailbreak And Install Cydia On iOS Device Running iOS 8 Or Above – Wccftech

With Pangu out for iOS 8/8.1 and Cydia getting an update soon, it’s time we did a tutorial on how to jailbreak your iOS device running iOS 8 and above. In addition to jailbreaking, we will also be telling you how to install Cydia on your device. Before starting, you should back up all the data and apps on your device completely to avoid any data loss in case things go wrong. So let’s start.

After you’re done backing your device up, you should also disable ‘Find my iPhone’ and lock screen on your device as well. Also make sure that you’re running iTunes 12.0.1 or higher on a WINDOWS PC, since Pangu for iOS 8 and above for Mac isn’t available right now.

1) Download And Run Pangu 8 v1.1.0 For Windows.

To start the process, head over here and download Pangu 8 v1.1.0 for Windows. After you’re done downloading the file, open the file directory and right click to run the application in administrator mode. After the program is up and running, connect your iPhone, iPad or iPod to the PC.

2) Fire Up Pangu And Jailbreak Your Device.

After you’ve run Pangu as administrator and connected your device, the user interface for Pangu will open up. Don’t worry, you don’t need to decipher all the Chinese language written here. All you need to do is Uncheck the only checkbox option on the interface and click on the blue rectangle in the center at the bottom.

(Keep in mind the screenshots represent the older Pangu version. Since Pangu is now in English, the process is fairly straightforward) Also, you’ll see that there’s no checkbox in v 1.1.0. Just click on the start jailbreak button after connecting your device.

This will start the jailbreaking process for your iOS device. To continue from here, head over to your device, which should reboot a couple of times during the process. After its done rebooting, you’ll need to repeat the same steps on your device. After your device turns on, locate the Pangu app on the screen to verify completion of the jailbreaking process.

Cydia.

After you’re done jailbreaking your device, the next step is to install Cydia or you won’t be able to fully take advantage of the functionality that comes with it. Keep in mind that while jailbreaking iOS 8 and above can only be done through Windows currently, installing Cydia can be done either through Mac or through Windows.

1) Download The Relevant Cydia Files For Installation.

In order to install Cydia on your device, first you will need to download three files. They have been listed below in order.

After you’ve installed the client and downloaded the relevant Cydia files, connect your computer and iOS device to the same network and then proceed to write down the ip address shown in your gadget.

2) Open The Pangu App And Install OpenSSH.

The next step on the process is to open the Pangu app on your iOS device, select OpenSSH and hit install. No further user steps are required beyond this point except for hitting okay once you see that the process has been confirmed.

3) Transfer Cydia Files.

After you’ve installed OpedSSH, open the SFTP app that you downloaded in the first step on your PC. Make the following entries into the corresponding sections shown in the image below.

  • Host: Your IP address
  • Port: 22/23
  • User name: root
  • Password: alpine

4) Enter SSH Commands Into SFTP App.

Next step is to enter two commands into the SFTP App that you’ve installed earlier. In WinSCP, go to commands, click on open and click Ok on the pop up that opens up. This will open a console terminal, in which you’re going to enter the following two commands one after the other. Make sure to let the first command run completely before you proceed to enter the next one.

  • dpkg -i cydia-lproj_1.1.12_iphoneos-arm.deb
  • dpkg -i cydia_1.1.13_iphoneos-arm.deb

The terminal looks like this:

After you have entered the commands, disconnect and reboot your device.

5) Open Cydia After You Have Rebooted Your iOS Device.

If you have followed the steps above correctly, the Cydia app should now appear on the home screen of your device. Tap on it to open it up. Running for the first time, Cydia should look like this.

After Cydia has prepared your files system, it will exit and you will have to launch the app again. Open it up to see some bad news from the app’s creator.

So that’s it folks. You have now successfully jailbroken your device and installed Cydia on it. Now all we have to do is wait for apps to be updated for iOS 8/8.1 and we’ll be all set to go.
